Everyday I wake up thankful that I am able to be a stay-at-home mom. It is the most mentally challenging job I have ever had, and I use to take care of patients on ventilators in intensive care. Having and outlet for creativity has been my saving grace. When I...
We design unique convertible backpacks, totes and purses for women and children. Mari-Mac Designs was established in February 2014. All of our products are responsibly and ethically handmade in Texas. What started out as a hobby, quickly became a mission to create functional and beautiful products for our family and friends.
We first started by sewing gifts for family and custom home decor for neighbors and friends. I dabbled in monogramming and embroidery for our customer-designed baby bedding and gifts. I even made camera straps and koozies for coffee mugs. I also love to sew dresses, aprons and even doll clothes for my girls.
Our Little Explorer Purses were initially made for my girls as toddlers, to encourage independence while practicing personal hygiene, aka wiping their own runny noses. The open design is intended to reduce frustration during your child's fine motor development age. The cross body design allows for your Little Explorer to be hands-free as they discover and collect small treasures throughout their daily adventures.
As our daughters became pre-schoolers and needed backpacks, I looked for something practical for everyday use but also fashionable enough for moms. Lets face it, moms always get stuck carrying their kids stuff. I love Disney characters, but not wearing them. Our Mini-Packs are made with stylish prints that are kid-friendly and mom approved!
Our Market Totes are the newest products to hit the shop. Sometimes I need a tote bag and other days I need to be hands-free. The ability for my tote bag to become a backpack makes it a sure winner for busy mom bosses like me.
The name Mari-Mac came from my parents. My mother is Marilou, she immigrated to the United States and worked three jobs as a nurse to be the provider for our family in the states and back in the Philippines. I grew up watching her sew dresses for my sisters and I. She also would make baby blankets for friends. She is the hardest worker I know and I am proud to be just like her! I love making people happy with things that I create.
Mac Arthur or "John" was my step-dad since I was three years old. He is my dad and taught me that any job worth doing should be done right. He always took pride in his appearance and being on time. He had never met a stranger My first job was mowing our church lawns with him. I still love to mow to this day. He also had a love of fixing and rebuilding cars. He made sure all of his girls knew how to change a tire and our oil before we were allowed to drive. John Mac Arthur Miller died on August 8, 2008 in his home surrounded by family. He is the reason that I pursue happiness in my life. He had a soft spot for those who were less fortunate. I always remember him giving to others and even fostering our friends who were going though rough times.
My husband, Ryan and I have been together for almost fifteen years and married for eight. He has always supported my need to create. He takes care of all things that bore me and make my eyes glaze over. He gets excited when it comes to analytics and spreadsheets. Together we have two little girls, Mia and Madelyn. My first anniversary present was a sewing machine given to me a month after my oldest daughter was born. Everything I make has been inspired by my family. Through God, my family and my loyal customers I am able to grow this business.
I love being apart of a creative community and I am constantly inspired by ambitious and motivated entrepreneurs. We have recently started hosting and producing vendor shopping events in our community. We have been blessed with so much and it is our duty and privilege to give back to others. Our mission is to help inspire, educate and motivate all those who come in contact with us. Thanks so much for supporting our journey and our creativity.
Always give your best with love,
